You have learned about typical and atypical development in early childhood and federal legislation that supports intervening early for children with special needs. You have also learned that each state has an early intervention program and how to advocate for early intervention for children with families and caregivers. For this assignment, you will research your state’s early intervention program to reveal resources for early intervention and support for families and caregivers. If you live outside the United States, you will research your country’s early intervention resources.
You will write a 2-page expository essay describing the following:
Introduce the importance of early intervention and information on your state’s early intervention program. What is the name and website of your state’s early intervention program? You can find this information by typing in the name of your state and the words “early intervention” in a search engine. For example, “Missouri, early intervention.” This search reveals that Missouri’s early intervention is called First Steps and can be found at this web address:First Steps ( https://dese.mo.gov/childhood/early-intervention/first-steps )
o Describe three facts you learned about advocating for early intervention from your state’s early intervention website.
o Explain the screening and evaluation process in your state.
o Discuss how a child can qualify for early intervention services in your state.
o Explain how you can use the information you learned to advocate for families and caregivers.
o Describe the programs and services your state’s early intervention program provides for families in an individualized family service plan (IFSP) so that you can advocate for services.
o Explain why advocating and intervening early for children with special needs is important.
