Course Description The D.B.A. capstone project requires that students know how to collect, organize, and interpret data. In this course, students broaden their research and general analysis skills as they further explore methodology and project types to incorporate into their doctoral study. Students engage in coursework focusing on qualitative and case study research methods, through which they learn to focus their analysis on efforts to improve the quality of an organization and its performance. Students examine techniques for thinking in an action-oriented manner, as if they were consultants, so that they can apply their own doctoral study in the real world. Finally, students engage in an iterative process of writing a proposal, incorporating feedback from peers and the course instructor. Ultimately, the proposal is offered by students as a document for review for consideration by potential mentors for their doctoral study. Focusing Your Qualitative Study and Collecting Data One factor in the success of your doctoral study will be reflected in your ability to present a coherent and well-written argument. You have already begun framing your argument by developing and refining your business problem statement and establishing and aggregating resources to support your argument; however, it can be challenging to demonstrate critical thought through writing?even for the most experienced business writer. This week, you will refine your business problem statement and have the opportunity to apply lessons learned and hone your scholarly writing skills by using the Available Faculty for Chair/Committees matrix and drafting and submitting your Prospectus/Chair Request Form. You will also compose an initial draft of your own Doctoral Study Proposal. Please complete the DBA Prospectus Chair Request form using information from the Available Faculty for mentors and Committees. Email it to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected]. Use the Available Faculty for Mentors and Committees list to request three choices to serve as your Chair. Note: those Faculty in the list that are shaded gray are NOT available at this time.
