Dissertation topic PowerPoint
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of about 10 slides to present the topic, purpose of the study, variables, graphic model, underpinning theory, and basic information of your data collection, sampling approach, and sample size.
Here you have a suggested outline for your presentation (please see attached EXAMPLE PowerPoint [in pdf format]):
1. Name, concentration, start program term and potential title of your dissertation
2. Motivation for the study and description of the variables of interest.
3. Problem statement and research purpose
4. Research questions
5. Originality, significance and contribution
6. Theoretical background. Include figures of previous research models that include the variables of your study.
7. Proposed Model, hypotheses and relationships. In this course, a small model of 3 to 5 variables is acceptable. You will have time to add depth later as you write the proposal.
8. Methodology: Procedures for data collection, instruments
9. Methodology: Data collection and data analysis
10. Potential Limitations and Implications of the Research
“Remember that you this presentation will give you and your dissertation chair a good understanding of the direction of your proposal.
The outcome of this class (future assignments, dear writer) is a first draft of the proposal. You are expected to add depth in subsequent dissertation courses but the prospectus should serve as the basis.
The document should use the Dissertation Template
The gap in the literature that will be filled with this research should be clear. The study should be relevant.
At least one general clear and well formulated research question
Multivariate analysis:
Include a graphical model with all independent and dependent variables
Ideally, include mediation and/or moderation
Very important: All hypotheses must be justified with theory – causal mechanism explained
Research design is realistic and appropriate.
Ph.D. dissertations have a minimum of 200 observations.”
