Directions- The mid-term examination will assess student’s knowledge on chapters 2-9. Aligned with these chapters, students will interview a professional in the field of sport or recreation (educational fields are also acceptable i.e. PE instructor, etc.) that holds a management or executive-level position. Develop at least TEN questions to ask the professional during your interview. The questions should not include general questions like: name, organization, title, but should be detailed and include topics covered in chapters 2-9. PART I – PRE REFLECTION Discuss the following: 1. Who you are planning to interview 2. Why you selected this person 3. This person’s official title and organization 4. What you plan to learn about management style and strategies from this person. PART II – INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND A SUMMARY OF THE RESPONSES. AT LEAST TEN QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ASKED AND ANSWERED. When asking someone to be interviewed follow the below steps: 1. Ask the manager prior to showing up for the interview 2. Make an appointment to meet with the manager. Make sure the person you are planning to interview has time available to fully understand what you are asking of them. Be punctual, respectful, and professional in meetings. 2. Be prepared to fully explain the assignment. Sharing the actual assignment with the manager will help in this process, but make sure you explain the assignment and not just hand the assignment to the manager. Explain the chapters aligned with this project (chapter 2-9), your process in developing the questions, and also provide them with question examples. 3. Class assignment to enhance knowledge. Make sure you explain that the interview will allow you the opportunity to not only expand knowledge on the chapters (2-9), but also help you to begin your career planning process. 4. During and after the interview: a) Be prepared and have questions ready b) Let the manager know you will take notes during the session or ask them for approval to tape the session. c) Do not bring friends, etc. to the session. d) Be respectful of the person’s time, be punctual. e) Exhibit professionalism during the interview. Remember this person is helping you not vice versa. f) The session may lead to more questions. Again, be respectful of the person’s time and request another appointment to ask further questions. g) Send the person an email of thanks for their assistance and help. Use the below template as a guide: Dear Dr. Smith: I truly appreciate speaking with you on Tuesday and learning more about your position with Nike. The meeting provided me with an outline of responsibilities, challenges, and management strategies used by marketing representatives at Nike.
