Detailed Movie review about The Fountainhead

Detailed Movie review about The Fountainhead   During the first week of class we watched the film version of Ayn Rand's philosophical novel, The Fountainhead. Throughout the course of the novel/film, the main character, Howard Roark, lives, fails and ultimately succeeds by living and working according to a set of principles (i.e. a philosophical system) that Rand called ?Objectivism.? As depicted in the film, the key components of Objectivism center on ideas about the supremacy of the individual vs. the group, selfishness as something that should be viewed as positive and the overall notion that the promotion of the heroic individual and their accomplishments is something to aspire to above group-think and having one's ideas co-opted/mutilated by others who have no real ideas of their own. For your first review, I want you to think about Howard Roark and his (Rand's) philosophical principles. First, using concrete examples from the film, critically evaluate Roark's philosophy of life. Is it good? Is it bad? Be sure to use examples to support your statements. Second, I want you to think about the fact that the film/novel is a controlled environment in which the philosopher can demonstrate their ideas knowing that they possess complete control over what happens to the characters. In the 21st century, can one, starting from the bottom as Roark did, have any chance of success if they choose to stick to such an individualist, anti-group way of thinking? Your review should be a minimum of 7-8 paragraphs with 7-8 sentences per paragraph. Your review needs to be typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Your film notes need to be stapled to the top of your typed review. Your review is due, Tuesday, October 24. A couple tips for success on these reviews. First, organization is key. You need to make sure that your introduction establishes your argument. The body paragraphs need to work toward giving evidence/proving your argument and the concluding paragraph should bring the review back to your thesis. Second, use relevant examples from the source. Do not simply say ?I think Roark was right.? Why is he right? Cite examples and then expound on them with your own voice. A key reason for these assignments is to get you thinking and to learn how to express your thoughts about philosophy in a formal manner. One rule of formal writing; do not use First Person (I). ideas need to be there but not you as an individual person.
