The student will write a minimum 1800-2000-word essay about a dance from a different culture. Examples would be Spanish “Flamenco” Dance, Native American “Rain” Dance, African “Harvest” Dance, or Japanese “War” Dance. You may discuss anything before the 2000’s.
How did the dance originate?
What group of people from that culture performed the dance?
What did they wear?
Describe the setting.
Describe the music.
What was going on in history during that time?
Was the dance performed by “nobility” or by ‘peasants”?
Narrow your subject and time frame down to where it is thought provoking.
The essay must cover the following topics: Dance origins, Dance description, Cultural influences, Significance of the dance in society.
