Select one Dance Video and one Dance Film
Dance and Politics, students will uncover how dancers and choreographers have used movement and performance to make statements about war, civil rights, democracy, discrimination and numerous other issues. They will choose one dance film and one dance performance (on video) which connects the art form of dance and expression to a social issue. In the written essays, the students will discuss how the issue in their chosen videos explores and supports those themes. They will discuss the artist’s stance and how the issue is communicated as well as how they relate to the issue personally. The student will reflect on a time when they exercised their civic responsibility and activism in relation to an issue and how the context of the situation is conveyed and relates to our current society. Students are assessed on their writing through submissions of drafts and the development of their writing through revisions
