Sample Answer
Mass incarceration and the racial disparity in the criminal justice system
The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world, with over 2 million people in prison or jail. This mass incarceration has had a disproportionate impact on Black and brown communities, who are more likely to be arrested, convicted, and incarcerated than white people.
There are a number of factors that contribute to mass incarceration and racial disparity in the criminal justice system, including:
- The War on Drugs, which has disproportionately targeted Black and brown communities.
- Racial profiling by law enforcement.
