Current Event Presentations

Select an article from a recent health care journal, magazine, newspaper, or online news source in the field of health care administration, conduct a 5 - 10-minute presentation on a current topic and then lead a short class discussion at the beginning of each class session. Points will be deducted if presentations last longer than 10 minutes and professor will be forced to stop the presentation. Students will be assigned dates for their presentation during the first couple weeks of class. Topics should focus on some aspect of leadership in healthcare administration. The presentation can be based on a health care related news article, interview or news report on popular media outlets. Each presentation should include 1) a brief summary of the article's contents, after which students are to engage the class in a discussion of 2) why the topic is interesting and important to those engaged (as a question to the class about the topic); 3) any leadership/management issues (stated or implied); 4) interest groups that may be involved and what perspectives they would have; 5) implications to the delivery system; and 6) implications to the consumers. Create a visual aid such as a PowerPoint presentation of the current event using 4 - 5 slides only for organization and illustrative purposes. Students should wear business casual or professional attire for oral presentations. On the actual day of current event presentations, students will provide the instructor with a hard copy of the current event article.
