Choose a film or TV Show from the list provided at the bottom of this page. Using themes and theories from the course, analyze the film / show and explore what it says about key topics such as:
punishment,
adjustment to prison and the prison experience (including importation and deprivation theories, pains of imprisonment),
prison subculture,
argot roles,
guard culture,
institutionalization and/or the consequences of prison,
prison management,
rehabilitation,
prison labor.
Note that some themes and theories of the course will apply to your film/show better than others. Chose the theories and themes that make sense for your movie/show – though ALL the movies/shows have something to say about prison adjustment and prison sub-culture. You can focus on certain characters, or particular scenes, or both.
