A. Write a brief summary of the chapter Violence as a Means of Control. Highlight three key points that were of interest to you.B. "In the 1930s, New Deal rhetoric promoted this notion of an ethnic conspiracy as a way of expanding the crime-fighting power of the national government" (Waldrep & Bellesiles, 2008). In two paragraphs discuss this idea of ethnic conspiracy and how it made criminals out of immigrants. Anything sound familiar here? C. Explain the types of police brutality uncovered by the Wickersham Commission. One-half to one page. D. Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti executed in August of 1927 for crimes they did not commit. Their innocence wasn't proven until 40 years later when forensic testing became part of solving crimes. In one page, respond to these questions. 1. Did these two men receive fair trials? 2. Was Due Process followed throughout the investigation? 3. What did class/culture have to do with the verdict? 4. Do you believe that due process followed in all of today's criminal cases.
