Creating Better Data

Creating Better Data Part 1.Last week, you found three examples of “bad data” in the media. In your assignment, I asked you to identify what was problematic about each visual and say what you could do to fix it. This week, I want you to do just that, using your newly found Excel skills.Choose one example of bad data from last week’s assignment. Post the original image here, with what was wrong with it. Then, I want you to recreate this data using Excel, fixing the problem. You may make slight adjustments to the data; for example, if your visual is a pie chart that adds up to more than 100%, you may choose what part is shrunk so that the pie chart equals 100%. Be sure to write about what specific changes you made to make your example “better data.”Do your best to make your visual as similar to the original image as possible. This might mean that you choose from your 3 visuals the one that you can most easily recreate using Excel. This also means you might want to change certain features of your graph to most closely resemble the original (for instance, font, text size, and color). I know you are limited in terms of what you can do using Excel, and I will take that into consideration. But I want you to have the experience trying to improve upon what you found last week using Excel. Part 2.In this class, we created our own dataset, from surveys you administered to other IU undergraduate students. conduct a basic bivariate analysis of two variables from the dataset and present your findings in chart/graph form. Make sure to label appropriately, careful not to fall into the traps of the “bad data” we discussed in class. After creating the graph, summarize the pattern that is displayed, in your own words.
