Creating an ad

Americans are bombarded with as many as 10,000 ads each day. The unending messages and images in these ads have become an indelible part of our American culture, including our pop culture. The infomercial was the triumph of the ad, not just as advertising, but also as programming content itself. Media consumers today may not have the stamina to sit through a long infomercial, which ruled late-night television decades ago, but the basic layout of those late-night ads are still with us.
To prove this point, you are going to create a short infomercial selling a very special product – a brand new…brick! That’s right a brick.
You are going to use everything you already know about advertising and popular infomercials to help you put an ad spot together. Create your infomercial spot (the transcript) and then answer the following questions; make sure to place your responses below your creative ad:
Describe why you think this format is so popular for selling products.
Do you think this kind of advertising narrative shapes our understanding of the world?
How so?
What if you weren’t selling a brick but a political candidate instead - would the same strategies apply? Why or why not?
