COVID-19 and Utilitarianism

The final paper for this course is a research paper. In order to write the final paper, you will need to relate the COVID-19 issue today and use Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill to support the thesis statement. The thesis statement could be "whether quarantine is something individual effort or collective effort" or "the government is considering reopening the country/value business or economic or over human's lives"This paper and topic should have ethical importance. By ethical importance, I mean that the topic should involve dimensions of right and wrong, responsibility, and/or harm.
A philosophical research paper is distinct. While you are expected to thoroughly research the chosen topic using reputable sources, you will ultimately be making a moral argument that exceeds your empirical research. To make this argument, you will need to use John Stuart Mill's philosophy.
Ultimately, in the abstract, you should do several things: (1) state your chosen topic and your reason(s) for
choosing the topic; (2) identify points of disagreement – what are the different issues at stake and what
positions do people defend relatively to those issues; (3) identify in what ways the topic has ethical
importance; (4) state what position you would like to defend and your reasons for defending the position;
and (5) include a bibliography listing the sources you used during your research. The abstract should be around 1-page double-spaced, excluding bibliography.
