Organic based disorders are medical conditions that affect the brain due to a physical cause. This can disrupt normal mental functioning and cause a variety of symptoms.
There are many different causes of organic based disorders, including:
- Injuries: Head injuries, such as those from a concussion or stroke, can damage brain tissue and lead to cognitive problems.
- Diseases: Infections, such as meningitis or encephalitis, can also damage the brain. Degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease, can also cause organic based disorders.
- Toxins: Exposure to toxins, such as lead or mercury, can damage the brain.
- Substance abuse: Alcohol and drug abuse can also damage the brain and lead to cognitive problems.
The symptoms of an organic based disorder will vary depending on the cause and the part of the brain that is affected. Some common symptoms include:
