Comparing and contrasting views

For this essay, you should select two films or two short stories (or one film and one short story)
from the class. Then, select one of the following topics and write an argumentative essay where
you compare and analyze the works in relation to the topic.

  1. National allegory: How could we interpret these works as a national allegory? What sort
    of message is the author or director sending about national history?
  2. Postcolonial history: What do these works say about a nation’s postcolonial history?
    What sort of techniques or themes do they use to get their message across?
  3. Gender: How do these works represent gender and gender roles? What sort of message do
    they send about issues like gender violence and patriarchal structures?
  4. Social inequality: How do these works address social inequality? What sort of message
    do they send about social inequality in regards to national history?
