Choose a company that has had a recent event (news, stock report, HR event, CEO change) and write a 2-3 page paper with appropriate citations discussing the following:
1. Define the issue that will require a company action. How did the event come into the public forum?
2. Provide a synopsis of the available facts and determine (your opinion) the impact to the company’s reputation (this could be negative, positive, moderate or neutral). Make sure to include a paragraph on what you think the company’s reputation is and how you arrived at that conclusion.
3. Write an analysis including next steps on what should be done from a communications perspective (internal management– who needs to be aware, how, when, external – is a response to media, shareholders, analysts, etc required?) and why you are making the recommendation. What form of communication do you recommend – memo, legal document, press release, public statement, meeting, etc.
4. Include your decision criteria for the recommendation – ie to protect business continuity, reputation, employee engagement, or other.
This paper is to illustrate the factors you would consider in making or recommending a decision to the company around the communications surrounding the event (internally and externally).
