Introduce the Collective Museum (its purpose, what it is, where it is located, how it was created)

Explain what your paper will do (you need to analyze three signs to understand what the UCSC culture is all about. What do people value here? Why would that be important for you to do as new students and international students?)

You could then hint to your “thesis” which is the answer to: What is the character of UCSC? What does the community value?

Main Body: Analysis section

Select three or more signs to analyze. You can pick signs that are related--that might be the easiest way, though you could pick different ones that represent different aspects of UCSC culture.

For each sign explain what it is about, what it says, who said it, and where it is located. What does that ONE sign say about UCSC character or culture?

Sign 2 (and photo)

From these 3 or more signs, what is the overall message about the USCS character (known as “ethos”) or culture? What do the people of UCSC believe in and value? (This is your thesis in paragraph form.) Can you connect any of your readings from College 1 here?

Conclusion/Implications (not necessarily in this order…except for number 4 should be number 4, I think, though ending on why art is important could be the last thought)
1.Restate your thesis in a couple of sentences.
2.Explain why art is important.
3.Explain what you learned about UCSC. (Cont. next page)

  1. You are a UCSC person now. How will you fit in here based on what you learned about UCSC? How will you contribute? What are your future dreams that connect with what you learned about the culture of this campus?
