Develop a profile of an American city of your choosing (just not in California).
A. In your profile, include the following elements --
The Context and Environment:
o History: When was the area was settled, when it was incorporated, etc.?
o Metro Area: What other governments border it, surround it, and overlap it?
o Economy: Major industries and employers
o State-local relationship: describe the character of state-local relations for the state in which your city is located.
The Organization:
o Form of government
o City government: Approximate size of the organization (number of employees, annual budget, service area.)
o How it is organized (try to supply an organizational chart)
o What are the major revenue sources and expenditure categories?
In general, you must demonstrate a proficient understanding of what your city’s government does.
B. Differences between California
• Here you should write about the differences between local government in California and local government in the state in which your city is located.
C. City Issues
• What significant political, policy or management issues has your city had to deal with recently?
• You must present the position of the city and the positions of interest groups and citizens on the matter.
