Chart of Accounts and Real-time Processing

Chart of Accounts:
Why would an international enterprise such as GBI require a different chart of accounts in each country in which it operates?

Real-time Processing:
When a sales order is shipped to a customer, the shipping department will execute an online transaction to reflect the fact that the items sold have left the building. With some exceptions, this means that the customer now owns the goods that were shipped, and the general ledger is immediately updated to reflect this. Why is it important that the accounting impact of a sales transaction is reflected immediately?
