Question: We saw in our lecture the first minutes of Charles Chaplin’s movie Modern Times. The “alienation of labor” is very vividly portrayed there. We have also read Marx’s piece on labor alienation, entitled “Estranged Labor.” Can you connect the two notions of alienation expressed in these two different media? Does Chaplin’s portrayal of the alienation of a factory worker have anything to do with Marx’s writings on alienation? If yes, then how so? Of no, how so?
