Task Description:
During this course, we have examined many environmental, economic, social, cultural, and political challenges of sustainability, including but not limited to various environmental problems, inequality and injustice, globalization, contradiction between economic growth and environmental protection, consumerism, population growth, poverty, human behavior changes, urban sustainability, etc. At the same time, we also have discussed many theories and frameworks, such as environmental justice, social and planetary boundaries, nested and tele-connected vulnerabilities, anthropocentrism and non-anthropocentrism, Marxist ecology, theories of consumerism, politics of denial and ignorance, population theory, etc. Students shall write an essay using a framework or theory discussed in the course to examine a specific phenomenon, case, example, event, or topic that can reflect a challenge/challenges of sustainability in the age of Anthropocene.
