Cell phones

When I first started teaching, there were no cell phones, so when I entered a classroom, it was noisy because of students’ conversations with each other. Now, when I enter the classroom, almost everyone is on a cell phone, and the room is silent. Some technology critics claim that this is a symptom of our larger isolation and loneliness, that our phones are keeping us from fully engaging with those around us. Do you agree with this?
