The family role in contributing to and managing youth violence Order Description UK Harvard referencing. A secondary research proposal which is an integral of my independent project The first part consists of: (a) a write up of the research proposal which sets out the aims and objectives of the study; the areas of literature consulted/to be consulted; the methodology adopted and a discussion of the ethical and feasibility issues involved where appropriate; and (b) an action plan in the form of a timetable. (500 words). Guidance: You should describe: • what it is you intend to research • how your proposal contributes to the existing knowledge base • how you intend to conduct the research (methodology) • what are the ethical issues of your research • an action plan in the form of a timetable setting out the stages of your research. Be realistic, and factor in your other assignment commitments and when you have space to focus on your project. And stick to it! The second part is a reflective exercise which requires you: (a) to demonstrate awareness of the key characteristics of the different theoretical perspective(s) which you might adopt for your chosen topic; (b) to select the most suitable perspective(s), in relation both to the topic and to your personal values; and (c) to identify the research method(s) – the data collecting instruments - most appropriate to the selected perspective(s). (1,000 words) Guidance: Research is driven by a range of theories and an understanding of how this will help you to research, write-up and deliver the written dissertation. Much of the secondary material you will be researching contains a theoretical base and having an understanding of what has guided the writer will help you to analyse the material. Thus, you are asked to describe the theoretical perspective(s) that underpin research and how that knowledge might help you to formulate your research question and carry out your research. From this stage we can move into research methods and how they combine with the perspective(s) to provide a logical framework. Thus, the second part of the assignment asks you to: • Offer a brief overview of the key theories in social research in your topic area • Choose 1 theoretical perspective(s) appropriate for your research & values, and • Demonstrate how your choice of research methods is compatible with your selected perspective(s). Defining Topic, Angle, Purpose Order Description 1. What is your chosen topic? (For example: a profile of Barb Collins, a volunteer at the local homeless shelter; a profile of “Shipwreck Days,” a citywide flea market and festival; or a profile of Burdick’s Grocery, the oldest family-owned business in town.) My chosen topic is the “profile of Barb Collins, a volunteer at the local homeless center”. 2. What personal angle can you present on this topic? (Consider what is new about the topic or what unique perspective can be shared about this topic.) Barb Collins was fortunate enough to graduate from college and managed to get a good full time job, despite the fact that he was raised in a homeless shelter. During his childhood years, Barb Collins was faced with a very difficult task of having to cover for almost all the expenses in his life including his schooltuition fees. He was raised by a single mother, but unfortunately, his mother lost her house to a bank, and therefore they were forced to live in a homeless center. 3. What is your purpose for writing? (What do you hope to accomplish? Why are you writing?) The purpose of writing this profile is to show that despite all the troubles, anyone can succeed in life. The profile describes Collins’ troubles during his lifetime and how he managed to deal with them and eventually succeed. After his success, he further went on to give back to the society that was too harsh on him and became a volunteer at a local homeless center. Analyzing your Readers You will be writing your Profile essay to your local community. Imagine you might submit the Profileto your local newspaper or have it shared in a community newsletter; The readers of thosepublications make up your target audience. In two to three paragraphs, define your local communityand describe what makes it unique. What are the needs, expectations, motivations, backgrounds, demographics, and experiences of community members? How will those influences impact your wordchoice, level of formality, and overall message? The western side of Indianapolis is quite a hard place to grow up in especially is living in a homeless shelter. Single moms are the most affected because there are not many resources to support them or help them raise their children. Also in the recent times the crime rate has gradually increased and in most cases, the homeless people are blamed for the said crimes. the community is also surrounded by poverty, and most children do not make it to college as their situation force them to indulge in such things as alcohol selling drugs or even prostitution in order to sustain themselves. Barb Collins, works as a volunteer in a homeless center in this neighborhood. His volunteer works provide some sense of security to the homeless and also gives them hope that despite all their misfortunes, there is still a lot of good things awaiting them out there. Collins has come out to be some breath of fresh air to the homeless youth in the society as he gets to show them that there is more to life than drugs and prostitution. He manages to provide the said homeless youth with various tasks to keep them busy in order to keep them away from crimes. Collins also provides some basic needs to the homeless especially during winter. Best of all he makes sure to talk to them in order to give them hope to live one day at a time. Despite all his efforts and success Collins is getting overwhelmed as the number of homeless continues to increase and sometimes he is not able to provide some basic needs to all of them. He is worried that he is not doing his best to provide these homeless people, especially the youth with enough resources to keep them away from crimes. He feels that he is letting these vulnerable youths down. These kids really need some motivation to enable them to continue with their education despite the hardships that surrounds them. Collins has started looking for more volunteers to help in motivating the homeless people. This way, the crime rate would go down in the community, as most of the youth who would have otherwise been in the streets committing crimes would be doing something constructive with Collins and other volunteers. Reflecting on the Role of Writer Whether you realize it or not, your personal relationship to the subject plays a key role in shaping theProfile essay. Remember, your personal brand is shaped, in many ways, by your communityinfluences. Just as you make choices in terms of how you present your brand through writing, personal choices will also impact how you present the subject of your Profile. In two to threeparagraphs, discuss your personal relationship to the subject. How have personal impacts, needs, motivations, and relationships shaped your topic, angle, and purpose? I am from Indianapolis and I have some friends who live in homeless shelters. I have personally seen the transformation that has been brought about by Collins to the youths. I know of some young people who were involved in drugs and alcohol, but have currently gone back to school. His efforts and encouragements have surely not gone to waste. Being a college student, I am also faced with many hardships, especially peer pressure. Since I no longer live with my parents, sometimes am forced to make ends meet, and even sometimes get tempted to get involved in crimes in order to get some extra cash. However barb Collins volunteer work in the homeless shelter continue encouraging me to go on with life without having to get involved in crimes. His success in life also has proved to me that anyone can make it, despite their backgrounds, and that is a priceless gift I have received from Barb Collins.
