How to Complete Discussion Posts
To get the highest grade possible, I highly recommend that you reread this document every time you go to do a discussion post.
As mentioned in the syllabus, there will be several discussion posts in the course. For each discussion post, you will watch a video or videos pertaining to corrections. The purpose of the discussion posts is to think about how abstract concepts or theories that you learn in class relate to the real world, as well as to engage in a critical evaluation and discussion of those issues with your peers. To do so, each discussion post will require you to complete three parts: (1) a Summary of the video(s); (2) a Reaction to the video(s); and (3) finally, a Response to another student’s reaction post.
The summary and reaction should be written in an original post. The summary should be in one paragraph and at least 150 words. The reaction should be in its own paragraph and least 150 words. After posting your original post, you should respond to another student in at least 150 words.
The instructions for each discussion post will be made available on the first day of the week within which it is due; see Course Outline for those dates. You will be able to find those instructions within the D2L folder for that week. For the first discussion post, for example, you will go into the D2L folder titled “Week 3: Chapters 1 and 2” and then click on “Discussion Post 1”.
When you go to complete each discussion post, first you should read over what is required. Next, you should follow the instructions. The instructions tell you what exactly to do; I suggest you write your answers within that document, as it will help you to ensure that the word count is sufficient and that grammar and spelling are correct.
Once you have done so, you are ready to submit your discussion post. Click “Start a New Thread.” Where it says “Enter a Subject”, write your name. Then cut-and-paste what you wrote above into the text box, and click “Post.”
Finally, you will review another student’s reaction to the piece (ignore their summary). To see other people’s posts, click on their title. To reply to a person’s post, click “Reply to Thread.” In the available text box, explain why you disagree or agree with their post and then click “Post.”
Note: You are only allowed to submit 1 original post. If you post more than 1 original post, you will receive a zero on the assignment, as it will be considered cheating.
Posts will be graded using the rubric on the following page, with 10 representing a perfect score.
