Discuss the biopsychosocial perspective, which suggests that human development emerges through complex transactions between biological, psychological, and social forces over time. Social workers who are able to integrate this dynamic perspective into the way they analyze human conditions and social problems will be better equipped to promote the welfare of their clients and client systems.
Becoming a skilled social worker also requires cultivating awareness of forces that have contributed to your development and that guide your behavior. This exercise offers you the opportunity to examine two (2) factors that have had a profound impact on you. These factors may include people, environmental forces, personal conditions, experiences, etc. Applying the biopsychosocial model, please explain how each factor has influenced your development over time.
Then analyze how each factor has had an impact on:
(a) your interest in a particular social problem and/or client population, and
(b) your potential effectiveness as a professional.
