Beneficial to employ resiliency theory

post a response to the following:

Reflect on your fieldwork homeless and identify a case where it would have been beneficial to employ resiliency theory. Describe the case in 2 sentences.
Describe the presenting problem in one concise sentence.
Describe an intervention you would implement to promote resiliency.
Identify an instrument from the Smith-Osborne and Whitehill Bolton’s article that would be appropriate when employing a single-subject design to evaluate how effective the intervention is in increasing the client’s level of resiliency.
Explain why you selected the instrument.
In other words, why would the instrument be appropriate? (Consider the age of the client and for whom the instrument was designed, how feasible it would be to administer the instrument such as cost, time to administer it, etc.).

Promoting Resiliency: I would implement narrative therapy with Sarah. This intervention encourages her to rewrite the narrative of her experience, focusing on her strengths and past coping mechanisms. By reframing her past experiences, Sarah can build confidence and self-efficacy to navigate future challenges in securing housing. Evaluation Instrument: The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) by Smith and Osboren would be suitable for a single-subject design to evaluate the intervention's effectiveness. Why the CD-RISC is Appropriate:
  • Age: The CD-RISC is designed for adults (18+), making it appropriate for Sarah.
  • Feasibility: It's a self-report questionnaire, readily available, and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, minimizing burden on Sarah.
  • Focus: The CD-RISC measures various aspects of resilience, including stress tolerance, positive emotions, acceptance of change, and spiritual connection. These align with the goals of narrative therapy in promoting Sarah's resilience.
By administering the CD-RISC before and after the narrative therapy intervention, we can gauge changes in Sarah's self-reported resilience levels. This provides valuable data to assess the intervention's effectiveness in promoting her ability to overcome challenges and achieve secure housing.

Sample Answer

During my fieldwork with homeless individuals, I encountered Sarah, a 23-year-old woman who had been homeless for two years after fleeing an abusive relationship. Despite facing significant challenges, Sarah maintained a positive attitude and actively sought resources.

Presenting Problem: Sarah struggles to secure stable housing due to limited income and past trauma impacting her ability to trust others.
