Define the target behavior you want to increase or decrease (i.e. eating less junk or high-fat foods, less smoking, anger management, decrease procrastination, increase exercising, manage spending money). Be sure to discuss why you chose to target this behavior and how you are going to benefit from this lifestyle change.
Develop a behavior modification plan using operant conditioning. Remember to discuss how operant conditioning is tied into your plan. Below are some questions you should address. If we did not cover some of the concepts during lecture (primary vs. secondary reinforcers), you can refer to Chapter 5 in your book to address these questions.
How are you using operant conditioning to change your behavior?
What schedule of reinforcement are you using to change your behavior?
How can you use primary and secondary reinforcers?
How will you avoid extinction?
Evaluation
How do you think your behavior modification plan will work on the targeted behavior? What do you think the success rate will be?
As with most therapies and programs, there are caveats. What were some of the barriers that you may encounter while trying to change the behavior? What can you suggest to overcome these barriers?
