Beckman Rearrangement

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BRvXAQ30fk Oxime 1 is either geometrically pure. The labelled was
removed from the container, by the
previous lab manager whom Noor was hired to replace. She needed to determine whether oxime
one was E- or Z-isomer and thought she could use Beckman Rearrangement reaction to make this
determination. (See the reaction below)

  1. Design an experiment for the Beckman reaction Noor could used.
  2. Your experimental design must include
    a. a list of chemicals and equipment needed
    b. an apparatus set up
    c. what safety precautions are necessary
    d. waste disposal
    e. a procedure
    f. what results will be collected
    g. how would these results confirmed the identity of the desired compound
    h. A mechanism for the reaction
  3. Give labelled structure for the E- and Z-isome of oxime 1.
