Midterm ProjectFor this assignment you will write a proposal that describes an innovation or invention that in some way can potentially have a significant positive impact on people’s lives or the environment. You need to develop or improve some form of technology, or present a new and creative use for an existing technology. The audience for this assignment is potential funding sources for your project. The goal is to explain your concepts in concrete, accessible language that offers a good overview of your idea and goals. Your idea must be feasible, and possibly realizable. Your innovation or invention must obey the known laws of physics. This is not a science fiction creative writing assignment. Please no time machines, invisibility cloaks, teleportation devices or alien interventions For example: Invention: think of a great need in the environment, for instance the need to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, invent a machine or technology that can imitate the way a plant removes CO2 from the air. Innovation: Think of a great need in global healthcare, for instance a quick, low cost way to treat an acute disease, and develop a way to rapidly address this crisis using existing technology. This assignment will take the form of a proposal which includes the following: I. Problem Statement This section should state the problem you will address. Provide specific detail about the problem and who is impacted. II. Summary of your innovation/ invention Include basic design or modifications, materials needed, budget with realistic estimates of cost, time line to build or implement, risk factors and environmental impacts, and any other necessary information to understand your concept. III. Positive Impact Statement Discuss the benefits of your innovation/invention for the intended community and the world. IV. Innovation Statement Make a case for why this technology is needed. Explain how it is different from other technology already in use, and show that your technology is a concrete solution. If you are presenting something that is a completely new invention, meaning nothing like it currently exists, make a convincing argument for why your invention should be funded. Please Note: Each student must submit an individual proposal. No group projects will be accepted. The length of the proposal should be 7 to 10 pages. Follow APA or MLA guidelines.
