research discussion Order Description INTRODUCTION TO THE QUESTION: For my scholarly project, I wanted to do something relevant to my clinical practice. As a nurse practitioner working with patients with chronic psychiatric illness managing their medical needs. I have observed a rising prevalence in pre-diabetes in my clinical setting. From my clinical experience, I have witnessed first-hand how side effects of antipsychotic medications has predisposed patients to pre-diabetes. To get a better understanding, I am interested in doing a research on how psychiatric illness can influence incidence of pre-diabetes and recommend guidelines for a more efficient management of risk factors that contribute to prevalence of pre-diabetes in psychiatric illness patients. Formatted PICOT question: In patient with chronic psychiatric d/o over 40 years old with prediabetes, how does the application of a monitored lifestyle modification program prevent the progression from prediabetes to diabetes over six-month period?
