-Writing a Research Paper The research paper is a visual analysis of 1-2 artworks that includes both
detailed descriptionof the artwork(s) in question and a well-reasoned interpretationbased on 3 sources. A
visual analysis is the foundational style of writing in art history. Imagine how you would describe the artwork
to someone who is unable to see it. After describing the image in as much detail as possible, consider what
do you think the work is about? If you look at more than 1 work, compare the similarities and differences
between them. You may consider two questions: What is going on in this artwork? What do I see that
makes me say that?
