Order Description Case Study-Antimicrobials A 30 year old woman from Thailand visiting family in California is brought to the ER with poor appetite and weight loss over the past few days. She had symptoms of the flu and with fever and night sweats. Cough produces greenish sputum sometimes specked with blood. Rales are noted in the left upper lobe and rest of the examination is unremarkable. Chest x-ray film reveals an infiltrate in the left upper lobe. An acid fast stain reveals multiple purplish thin rods. Laboratory values show a while cell count of 12,000ul/L and a hematocrit of 33%. Sputum is sent for laboratory culture.
