Description
Y Tu Mamá También (And Your Mother Too) is a 2001 Mexican erotic drama film directed by Alfonso Cuarón. The film is set against the backdrop of Mexico's political and economic realities, specifically at the end of the uninterrupted 71-year line of presidents from the Institutional Revolutionary Party and the rise of the opposition led by Vicente Fox. The director Cuarón reimagined the American road movie genre to depict Mexico’s geography, politics, people and culture. He aimed to borrow only the pleasure and entertainment of Hollywood cinema to synthesize with the political and cultural exploration of Mexico.
In a 3-4 page essay in English, explain the implications of the above citation by referencing specific instances from the film. Be sure to define the film genre and discuss the pertinence of the historical and political climate in Mexico.
