Anatomical Terminology

Using the anatomical terms found throughout the first lesson, create a scenario for the class to read and decipher. Be sure to utilize the terms referring to direction and position, as well as body cavities and regions to provide as detailed a description as possible.

Here is an example: Jennie fell off her motorcycle and tore a nerve in her axillary region. She also tore ligaments in her cervical and scapular regions and broke the only bone of her right brachial region.

Once the scenarios have been created, read and respond to one another and explain where the injuries are located.

Topic 2 - Cells and Tissues
Blood transfusions are an example of a tissue transplant. All transplants (tissue and organs) must be cross-matched so the recipient’s immune system will not attack the donated organ; rejection is the main problem in organ transplants. What happens at a cellular level during organ rejection? Is it possible to have organ rejection even with a perfect match? What denotes a perfect match?

Topic 3 - The Integumentary System
Is sun exposure good or bad for you? Take one side and present your argument. Be sure to discuss the role of skin in producing the precursor to Vitamin D. But what about the damaging effects of UV radiation? Is there a happy medium to sun exposure? Be sure to include references.
