Write an essay or blog piece assessing the quality of scientific reporting in the lay media. The topic should be relevant to material covered in the course. If you are unsure whether the topic counts, feel free to run it by the TA or professor. Your essay should be written in language that is accessible to a smart person who has not taken anthropology or evolutionary courses before.
You will be responsible for:
finding a recent article, or group of articles (from the last 5 years), in the scientific popular press that touches on a topic/theme relevant to class. digging into the original scientific literature that the press article(s) references assessing the veracity and accuracy of the claims in the lay press writing your own essay or scientific blog piece that critiques the popular press work, corrects it if it is inaccurate, and extends the reporting on the topic In your essay or scientific blog piece, you should discuss:
what is known about the topic/theme how it can be interpreted from an evolutionary framework whether the public literature in the newspaper
