Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World

Description

Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is considered by many to be the quintessential dystopian novel, painting a picture of a bleak possible future in which science replaces humanity. Brave New World raises many issues about society and humanity that are worthy of consideration, including the nature of individuality, conformity, freedom, ethics, and scientific experimentation.

Your assignment is to write a 5-6 page research paper about a topic of your choice, somehow related to Brave New World. For example, your paper can take any of the following forms:

A concept or position paper that explains or defends an opinion on an issue presented in the novel, such as the viability of genetic engineering, the role of stability and conformity in a society, or the use of drugs and sex to placate the population

A solution, evaluation, or speculation paper on a problem or situation presented in the novel

A critical interpretation paper that analyzes some literary aspect of the novel, either on its own or in comparison to another work of utopian or dystopian literature, such as We, by Yevgeny Zemiatin, 1984, by George Orwell, or Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury

Alternatively, I will consider a paper topic on any other aspect of Brave New World, as long as it provides the opportunity for the required research.

Your paper must be at least 2000 words long. If your paper is less than 2000 words, I will not accept it and you will receive an F for the assignment.

Keep in mind that this paper will be evaluated on the quality of your research in addition to the presentation and organization of your arguments. All papers should contain at least five authoritative research sources, proper citation formats, and a Works Cited page.

Careful selection and utilization of secondary resources is an essential part of this assignment. Your primary research tools should be books, periodicals, and the scholarly databases available through the library. You may use the open Internet for background research, but no open Internet sources should appear in your Works Cited list. All primary and secondary works that you summarize, paraphrase or quote must be cited in the text and appear in your Works Cited list, both of which you must format correctly using the MLA 8th edition format.
