African Polyrhythm

Your journeys have now led you to Guinea, West Africa, where you come across the following scene:

In your travel blog/journal you want to write about this experience. This entry will be in two parts:
1) Unfortunately your camera was out of batteries and your cellphone wasn't charged, so you were not able to
capture this moment. Try your best to describe it in detail. What did it look like (setting, environment, number of
people, weather, clothing, etc.)? What did it sound like (use the vocabulary you learned over the semester,
especially as it relates to tempo, beat, and rhythm). Lastly, describe as best you can the dancing that took
place.
2) Conduct an analysis based on your description. What do you think the purpose of this event was? Was it a
ritual? Simply for entertainment? Do you think it was performed for an audience, or more like a juergas where
anyone could participate? What can you extrapolate about it's social role, given the enviroment where it was
performed? What is the the connection between the dancers and drummer? Is there a master drummer? If so,
who?
