Choose a topic related to our course themes and write a ca 5 pp (1500 words) paper, w footnotes and references, using the standard format for an upper-level Humanities research paper.
Research= A dialectic spiral, which can proceed something like this:
(1) Read the handouts posted on Brightspace about Research Paper Writing.
(2) Reflecting & Planning stage: Open-ended Listening to others, to the material, the readings, the visuals, to the prof (3) Looking at film / visuals / Skimming-reading widely (= Pre-Search)
(3) Gradually, reading more focused materials as your topic becomes more clear to you;
(4) While reading, you take notes, and carefully note the source and page number where info that seems important is from (for future footnotes).
(5) WRITE it all up according to the format requested.
IDEAL Method:
i. Ideally, you would spend 2 weeks working on your research paper daily, an hour here – 45 mins there; you would spend 2 hours over the first weekend, and more hours the final weekend and days before the due date.
ii. After 5 days or so of presearch and research, you assemble your notes into a Draft 1; print it out, adding – editing – moving things around so you get the proper format and structure.
iii. Do the first edit on paper and only after that,
