Federalism Conflict

Learning Goal: I’m working on a humanities writing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Your assignment is to research one additional example of a sovereignty (federalism) conflict in American politics between a state government(s) and the national government. What is (or was) the conflict about and why did the conflict arise? How was it resolved (or how do you think it will be resolved) and why? In your view, is the issue best regulated by the state or national government? Why? Be sure to highlight the tension between state sovereignty and federal sovereignty in your answer. Make sure that your argument is about the LEVEL of government, not what the correct policy outcome should be.
