0 Instructions: Create a 5 Forces Model for a hospitality business segment (except
airlines or fast food restauants) and evaluate the strength of each force based on at
least 3 criteria from the lectu'e slides and text- See text book pages 59-68 and
Porter‘s 5 Forces Checklist- Effective visual display required-
Include a reason/example for each criterion from the industry selected, and reach an
overall conclusion as to the strength of each force- Yorr assignment should include
the following:
1) A visual model (see page 67; figu'e 2-4 and/or PR 2 example) that includes the
criteria and overall force evaluation, with specific application to the industry being
analyzed- I recommend using the Smart Art featu'e or text boxes and shapes in Word
for this-
2)- A description/definition of the industry being analyzed-what is the industry
segment all about? What does this segment offer?
3) A description of the customers, competitors, suppliers and substitutes being
considered- (Items 2 and 3 should be simple, bulleted lists)
4) Discuss the implications of you analysis-what are the biggest threats or
challenges for businesses in this industry segment? What should businesses in this
segment do to be successful?
