1945- Present USA History

1.The United States after World War II became concerned with the USSR's interest in protecting itself from capitalist encirclement (this was the Soviet perspective). When Third World national liberation movements were often led by anti-capitalist (anti-imperialist) socialist leaders, the U.S. interpreted these efforts as a worldwide communist crusade. Complicating everything was that the USSR did aid some of these movements. Describe what is meant by the "cold war consensus" and critique this analysis which dominated U.S. foreign policy for nearly fifty years. Use at least six specific examples of so-called communist led national liberation movements.

  1. American society and culture went through some very dramatic changes in the post-WWII era. What do you regard as the most consequential changes in this evolution of modern society? Provide details.
