Description

Quite obviously,12 angry men is about the American criminal justice system. However, there is more than that going on. Besides portraying the judicial process, and whether or not it has some inherent flaws, each year is required to reflect upon and then voice his moral convictions in relation to raise culture and socio Economics as they relate not only to himself but of that of the accused. Also, the film asks the juror, as well as the viewer, what it means to be part of a democratic system that can so quickly affect another persons life. Is being on a jury, an actual civic duty, meant to be taken lightly?

For your final exam essay you are to connect this film to the various themes we have discussed in class. How does this film highlight some of the themes we have touched upon? What specific methods, tied to the notion of the American dream, our present? What conclusions do the characters in the film come to about justice, which is supposed to be in underpinning of the American dream? What does justice even mean? How can justice be meted out when other beliefs, prejudices, stand in the way?
